Help! Are Lunges The Best Exercise For Thigh Fat?

Help! Are Lunges The Best Exercise For Thigh Fat?

Short answer: No.. It's impossible to remove body fat from one specific area (aka spot reduce) by any one strength training exercise. The term “SPOT REDUCING” has been and will continue to be the unicorn of fitness/weight loss. Simply stated, you can make your body lose body fat but you can’t tell it where to take it from specifically. Lunges (and or any other strength training exercise) are great for muscle tone, strength, flexibility etc., but have absolutely zero [direct] bearing on fat loss at all. From here we’d be getting into more in depth discussion about genetics that I’ll save for another time.

Example: You can do 1000 crunches a day and it won't help your stomach lose body fat. You can do 1000 reps on the inner thigh machine and it won’t help your thighs lose body fat. Body fat loss (anywhere it resides on our bodies) is the result of "metabolized fuel for energy". So it comes back to nutrition and cardio (always, I know). Strength training is essential and plays on ongoing role in keeping fat off and looking/being toned as you get leaner. The better muscle-to-fat ratio you have, the higher your metabolic rate is all the time and the more "fuel" aka fat, your body uses for basic function (BMR).

Simply put: more muscle = less body fat ongoing and the ability to stay leaner easier going forward!

Summary: Cardio and nutrition take the fat off everywhere. You can make your body lose body fat but you can’t tell it where to take it from specifically. Strength training is needed for (in addition to a laundry list of additional mental, physical benefits) strength, flexibility, tone, an increased metabolic rate and will ultimately aid in keeping you leaner ongoing.
