QUESTION: Can I sip on protein shake throughout day? Or do they need to be part of meals?
ANSWER: They should be used FOR your meal AS your protein I.E. a "supplement" to lean meat, eggs etc. But it's not going to hurt anything if you want to sip on one periodically throughout the day. It's not IDEAL because you want your body to be able to run full cycles of digestion with no interruption, so just keep a couple things in mind if you're going to do that. 1- it needs to be with a pre made protein drink (RTD) instead of your powder because once you mix the powder with water it begins to denature the protein (break it down) and after about 45-60 minutes there's not going to be very much actual protein left, if any. 2-without any preservatives to slow the process it will "go bad" in a couple hours unless it's refrigerated, so be careful not to make yourself sick. Anyone who have ever left a protein drink out overnight and smelled it the next day will know EXACTLY what I mean.
