Being FIT and HEALTHY means being functional. It means not neglecting certain areas while solely focusing on only 1 or 2.
As kids we swung around in trees, wrestled one another, jumped off stuff twice our height, crawled over and under whatever we wanted, picked things up over our heads and carried them in odd positions, hung upside down, did somersaults, you name it. Now it seems ever more common to have people getting injured doing simple things like taking out the trash, unloading their truck, carrying groceries, squatting down, picking up kids or grandkids. We shouldn’t be getting broken hips from just falling over (we really shouldn’t just be falling over either). I’ve even seen injuries from just moving too quickly or sneezing.
Well, it’s not because we’re older, I promise you that, although that typically gets the blame.. it’s because people have stopped doing all those things and never replaced it with anything else equivalent. People have gotten lazy and routinely neglect their bodies. Stop doing ANYTHING long enough and and see what happens. How many times have we all heard “If you don’t use it you’ll lose it”... well, it’s true. Don’t squat down for 20 years, then try...good luck. Don’t do chin ups after grade school, then try one (another injury coming right up!).
The good news is, you can get it all back if you want...all of it.
Don’t Stop Moving!
